Description
Losartan is a selective AT1 receptor antagonist that blocks the action of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor.
Its action leads to vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, increased renal excretion of sodium and water, and reduced blood pressure.
It does not interfere with bradykinin metabolism, differentiating it from ACE inhibitors.
It also helps reduce sympathetic tone, cardiac remodeling, and vascular hypertrophy.
