How it Works:

Pantoprazole binds irreversibly to the gastric proton pump (H+/K+ ATPase) in stomach parietal cells, inhibiting the final step in gastric acid production, thus reducing acid secretion.


Dosage:

Adults: 40 mg once daily (up to 8 weeks, as prescribed)
Children: As directed by physician
How to Take: Swallow whole with water, with or without food, at the same time daily.


Overdose:

May cause tremors, reduced activity, impaired coordination, hunched sitting. Seek emergency medical help immediately.


Missed Dose:

Take as soon as remembered. Skip if near next dose time. Do not double the dose.


When Not to Use:

  • Allergy to Pantoprazole or PPIs

  • Vitamin B12 deficiency

  • Hypomagnesemia

  • Osteoporosis

  • Interstitial nephritis

  • Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus

  • Nausea

  • Headache

  • Diarrhea

  • Constipation

  • Skin rashes


Warnings & Precautions:

  • Caution in liver/kidney disease

  • Risk of GI infections

  • Consult doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Iron supplements
