How It Works

Zinc sulphate monohydrate is a source of zinc, an essential trace element that supports numerous enzyme functions and plays a key role in immune response and recovery, especially during diarrhoeal illnesses.

Dosage

  • As prescribed by a physician

  • Dosage depends on age and clinical condition
    (Commonly: 10–20 mg elemental zinc per day for 10–14 days in children with diarrhoea)

Side Effects

  • At recommended dosage, side effects are rare

  • Occasionally may cause mild stomach upset

Drug Interactions

Zinc sulphate may interfere with the absorption of:

  • Tetracyclines

  • Quinolones

  • Iron, copper, calcium, phosphorus supplements

  • Penicillamine

  • Trientine
    Note: Keep a minimum 3-hour gap between zinc and these medications.

Contraindications / When Not to Use

  • Known hypersensitivity to zinc sulphate or any syrup components

  • Patients with copper deficiency
