Used For

  • Relief of pain (mild to moderate)

    • Non-rheumatoid (seronegative) arthropathies

    • Periarticular conditions (frozen shoulder, bursitis, tendonitis, tenosynovitis, low back pain)

    • Soft tissue injuries

  • Pain conditions: dysmenorrhea, dental pain, post-operative pain, migraine, and headache


How it Works

Ibuprofen works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which decreases prostaglandin production. Prostaglandins are responsible for causing pain, fever, and inflammation. By reducing their levels, ibuprofen helps relieve pain, swelling, and fever.


Usage and Safety

Dosage

  • Contains 200mg/5mL ibuprofen suspension

  • Dosage depends on age, weight, and condition – follow physician’s instructions or product leaflet

  • Use a measuring spoon/cup for accuracy


Side Effects

Common:

  • Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite

  • Heartburn, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, cramps, bloating

  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue

  • Runny/stuffy nose, insomnia

Uncommon/Rare:

  • Ringing in ears (tinnitus), vision changes

  • Mood changes (confusion, depression, nervousness, hallucinations)

  • Eye problems (blurred vision, sore red/itchy eyes)

  • Signs of infection (fever, chills, sore throat, mouth ulcers)

  • Unusual bleeding or bruising, reddish/purplish skin blotches


Drug Interactions

May interact with:

  • Other NSAIDs / Aspirin / Salicylates

  • Warfarin, clopidogrel (blood thinners)

  • Lithium, SSRIs (e.g., fluoxetine)

  • Diuretics

  • Methotrexate, corticosteroids, digoxin

  • Ciclosporin, tacrolimus, aminoglycosides

  • Herbal: Ginkgo biloba

  • Quinolone antibiotics, zidovudine

  • Cholestyramine, sulfonylureas

  • Voriconazole, fluconazole (antifungals)

  • Mifepristone


When not to Use

  • Allergy to ibuprofen or formulation ingredients

  • History of hypersensitivity reactions to NSAIDs (aspirin, etc.)

  • Patients with active bleeding disorders or peptic ulcer disease (use with caution / avoid)


Precautions

  • If you develop an infection while taking ibuprofen, consult your doctor.

  • Ibuprofen may mask symptoms of infection (fever, pain, swelling, redness).

  • Use with caution in patients with kidney, liver, or gastrointestinal problems.


Warnings
