How it works:
Nepafenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic prodrug. After topical ocular dosing, nepafenac penetrates the cornea and is converted by ocular tissue hydrolases to amfenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Amfenac inhibits the action of prostaglandin H synthase (cyclooxygenase), an enzyme required for prostaglandin production.

Side Effects:

Eye-related: Iris inflammation, eye pain, discomfort, dry eye, eyelid swelling, irritation, itching, discharge, allergic conjunctivitis, increased tear production, deposits on the eye surface, fluid/swelling at the back of the eye, redness.

General: Dizziness, headache, allergic swelling of eyelids, nausea, skin inflammation, redness, itching.
Drug Interactions:
Inform your doctor if you are taking:

Other eye drops (especially for glaucoma)

Medicines that reduce blood clotting (e.g., warfarin)

Other NSAIDs — these may increase the risk of bleeding
Indication:

Used in adults to prevent and relieve eye pain and inflammation after cataract surgery

Reduces the risk of macular oedema following cataract surgery in diabetic patients
When not to Use:

Allergy to nepafenac or any excipient in the medicine

Allergy to other NSAIDs

History of asthma, skin allergy, or severe nasal inflammation when using NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, piroxicam, diclofenac)
Precautions:

Use of topical NSAIDs may cause keratitis and, in susceptible patients, serious corneal damage (erosion, thinning, ulceration, perforation)

Discontinue if corneal epithelial breakdown occurs

Monitor closely for corneal health in high-risk patients
Warnings:

NSAIDs may mask acute eye infections; they do not have antimicrobial properties. If infection occurs, use with antibiotics cautiously.

Avoid wearing contact lenses during postoperative period unless approved by doctor.

Do not inject or swallow nepafenac.
