Detail Description

Barinep Eye Drops 5ml – Specification

Requires Prescription: Yes

Generics: Nepafenac

Used For: Eye Inflammation

How it works:
Nepafenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic prodrug. After topical ocular dosing, nepafenac penetrates the cornea and is converted by ocular tissue hydrolases to amfenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Amfenac inhibits the action of prostaglandin H synthase (cyclooxygenase), an enzyme required for prostaglandin production.

Dosage:
As prescribed by the doctor (Nepafenac)

Side Effects:

  • Eye-related: Iris inflammation, eye pain, discomfort, dry eye, eyelid swelling, irritation, itching, discharge, allergic conjunctivitis, increased tear production, deposits on the eye surface, fluid/swelling at the back of the eye, redness.

  • General: Dizziness, headache, allergic swelling of eyelids, nausea, skin inflammation, redness, itching.

Drug Interactions:
Inform your doctor if you are taking:

  • Other eye drops (especially for glaucoma)

  • Medicines that reduce blood clotting (e.g., warfarin)

  • Other NSAIDs — these may increase the risk of bleeding

Indication:

  • Used in adults to prevent and relieve eye pain and inflammation after cataract surgery

  • Reduces the risk of macular oedema following cataract surgery in diabetic patients

When not to Use:

  • Allergy to nepafenac or any excipient in the medicine

  • Allergy to other NSAIDs

  • History of asthma, skin allergy, or severe nasal inflammation when using NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, piroxicam, diclofenac)

Precautions:

  • Use of topical NSAIDs may cause keratitis and, in susceptible patients, serious corneal damage (erosion, thinning, ulceration, perforation)

  • Discontinue if corneal epithelial breakdown occurs

  • Monitor closely for corneal health in high-risk patients

Warnings:

  1. NSAIDs may mask acute eye infections; they do not have antimicrobial properties. If infection occurs, use with antibiotics cautiously.

  2. Avoid wearing contact lenses during postoperative period unless approved by doctor.

  3. Do not inject or swallow nepafenac.

Pregnancy Category: Always consult your physician before use.
