How it Works:
Amlodipine and Valsartan are antihypertensive agents with complementary mechanisms. Together, they provide an additive effect in lowering blood pressure more effectively than either drug alone.


Usage & Safety

Dosage:
As prescribed by the physician.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Nasopharyngitis, influenza, hypokalemia, headache, fatigue, edema (facial, peripheral, pitting), flushing, anorexia, hyperlipidemia, hyperuricemia, dizziness, visual impairment, palpitations, cough, abdominal discomfort, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, rash, arthralgia, back pain.

  • Rare but Serious: Orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia, coordination abnormalities, hyponatremia.

Drug Interactions:

  • Antihypertensives

  • Grapefruit & grapefruit juice

  • CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., azole antifungals, macrolides, verapamil, diltiazem)

  • CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, Hypericum perforatum)

  • Simvastatin, Lithium

  • Potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, salt substitutes containing potassium

  • NSAIDs

  • Sildenafil


Indication:

Treatment of essential hypertension.


When Not to Use:

  • Hypersensitivity to Amlodipine, Valsartan, dihydropyridine derivatives, or any excipient.

  • Severe hepatic impairment, biliary cirrhosis, cholestasis.


Precautions:

  • Use cautiously in patients with unilateral/bilateral renal artery stenosis or solitary kidney (monitor urea & creatinine).


Warnings:

  1. Concomitant use with potassium-raising agents requires caution and potassium monitoring.

  2. Safety in hypertensive crisis not established.

  3. Discontinue immediately if angioedema occurs; do not re-administer.


Pregnancy Category: Consult physician before use.
