How it works:
The beta-lactamase inhibitory action of clavulanate extends the spectrum of amoxicillin to cover a wider range of organisms, including many resistant to other beta-lactam antibiotics.
Usage and Safety
Dosage:
As prescribed — contains Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid.
Side Effects:

Common: Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, indigestion

Less common but possible: Mucocutaneous candidiasis, reversible leucopenia (including neutropenia) and thrombocytopenia, dizziness, headache

Serious allergic reactions: Angioneurotic oedema, anaphylaxis, serum sickness-like syndrome, hypersensitivity vasculitis

Indication:
Broad-spectrum antibiotic for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacterial pathogens.
When not to Use:
Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to beta-lactams (penicillins, cephalosporins).
Precautions & Warnings
Precaution:
Before initiating therapy, assess history of hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins, or other allergens.
Warning 1:
Serious and sometimes fatal hypersensitivity reactions (including anaphylactoid and severe skin reactions) can occur, especially in patients with a history of penicillin allergy.
Warning 2:
Prolonged use may cause overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
Warning 3:
Adjust dose in patients with renal impairment as per recommendations.
