Treatment of malaria
How It Works
Artemether and Lumefantrine act on different sites within the malarial parasite.
-
Artemether contains an endoperoxide bridge, which produces free radicals toxic to Plasmodium parasites.
-
Lumefantrine disrupts the conversion of heme to hemozoin, leading to parasite death.
This dual mechanism increases effectiveness against acute malaria infections.
Indication
Used for the treatment of acute uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum, including resistant strains.
