Generic Name

  • Flurbiprofen (100 mg film‑coated tablet)


Drug Class

  • Non‑Steroidal Anti‑Inflammatory Drug (NSAID)


Used For / Indications

  • Relief of pain, swelling, and inflammation associated with:

    • Osteoarthritis

    • Rheumatoid arthritis

    • Ankylosing spondylitis

    • Musculoskeletal conditions or dental pain 


Dosage & Administration

  • Adults (except elderly): 200–300 mg/day, divided into 2–4 doses; maximum 100 mg per dose 

  • Take with food or a full glass of water to reduce gastric irritation

  • Adjust dose individually based on response and tolerance 


How to Use

  • Swallow the tablet whole with water

  • Do not crush, chew, or split unless advised

  • Ideally take with or after a meal to minimize gastrointestinal side effects 


Missed Dose / Overdose

  • Missed Dose: Take as soon as remembered; if near next dose, skip—do not double dose

  • Overdose: Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness. Seek medical attention immediately 


Side Effects

Common:

  • Gastrointestinal discomfort: nausea, abdominal pain, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation

  • CNS: dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nervousness

  • Other: skin rash, dry mouth, increased sweating, blurred vision, tinnitus 

Rare / Serious:

  • GI bleeding, ulceration, and perforation—possible without warning symptoms (especially in elderly or long-term users)

  • Elevation of liver enzymes, hepatic reactions including rare hepatic failure

  • Hematological effects: anemia, prolonged bleeding due to platelet dysfunction

  • Severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis and Stevens‑Johnson Syndrome


Contraindications / When Not to Use

  • Known hypersensitivity to flurbiprofen or other NSAIDs (including aspirin)

  • History of NSAID-induced asthma, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions

  • Peri-operative period of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery

  • Active GI bleeding or ulcerative disease

  • Use in severe renal impairment or during pregnancy without medical supervision


Warnings & Precautions

  • Increased risk of cardiovascular events (MI, stroke), particularly with long‑term use or high doses

  • Increased GI risks: bleeding, ulceration, and perforation

  • Monitor liver and renal function periodically

  • Elderly patients are at higher risk for GI and renal adverse events

  • Avoid concurrent use with other NSAIDs or anticoagulants unless prescribed 


Drug Interactions

  • May increase bleeding risk when combined with anticoagulants or platelet inhibitors

  • Concurrent use with aspirin may heighten GI adverse effects and reduce renal function

  • Lithium toxicity risk increases with NSAIDs

  • Interaction potential with other drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 or those affecting gastric pH 


Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category C: avoid in late pregnancy due to risk of ductus arteriosus closure and fetal effects

  • Consult physician before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding


Storage

  • Store at controlled room temperature (20–25 °C / 68–77 °F)

  • Keep in original container, protected from moisture and heat

  • Keep out of reach of children
