✅ Indications / Uses

Acylex (Acyclovir) is used to:

  • Treat chickenpox and shingles

  • Treat cold sores, genital herpes, and other herpes simplex infections

  • Prevent recurrence of herpes outbreaks

  • Prevent herpes infections in immunocompromised patients

⚙️ How It Works

Acyclovir is a synthetic antiviral that:

  • Inhibits viral DNA replication

  • Kills or stops the growth of viruses

  • Selectively targets herpes viruses

🕒 Dosage

🚫 When Not to Use

Do not take Acylex if:

  • Rash, itching, pruritus, alopecia

  • Serious: Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, Erythema multiforme, Urticaria

🆘 Allergic Reaction:

  • Anaphylaxis (life-threatening in rare cases)

💊 Drug Interactions

Use caution with:

  • Probenecid

  • Cimetidine

  • Mycophenolate mofetil

  • Cyclosporin, Tacrolimus (↑ risk of nephrotoxicity)

  • Theophylline

⚠️ Warnings & Precautions

🧓 Elderly Patients:

  • Often have reduced kidney function → may need dose adjustment

  • Higher risk of neurological side effects

💧 Hydration Warning:
