How It Works

Fluticasone propionate is a corticosteroid that helps reduce inflammation. Corticosteroids are believed to act by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, collectively called lipocortins. These proteins inhibit the release of arachidonic acid, a precursor to inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes.

Fluticasone propionate is lipophilic and binds strongly to glucocorticoid receptors, with a half-life of approximately 10 hours. It has minimal activity at other receptors such as progesterone, mineralocorticoid, estrogen, or androgen receptors.
