Overview

Advacort 0.1% Cream is used for the treatment of various types of eczema. It works by reducing inflammation and allergic reactions in the skin, providing relief from redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort.


Uses

  • Atopic dermatitis (endogenous eczema, neurodermatitis).
  • Eczema in children.
  • Contact eczema.
  • Degenerative, dyshidrotic, or vulgar eczema.

How It Works

  • Reduces inflammation and allergic reactions in the skin.
  • Lessens redness (erythema), fluid build-up (edema), and oozing.
  • Relieves itchiness, burning sensations, and pain.

Dosage

  • Apply as prescribed by your doctor.

Side Effects

Common:

  • Burning sensation and itching at the site of application.

Uncommon:

  • Dryness, redness, blisters.
  • Hair follicle inflammation (folliculitis).
  • Rash or tingling at the site of application.
  • Allergic skin reaction (contact dermatitis).

Rare:

  • Skin infection, swelling, or irritation at the site of application.
  • Fungal skin infection.
  • Skin infection producing pus, skin cracks.
  • Swelling of small blood vessels in the skin.
  • Thinning of the skin (atrophy), acne.

Not Known:

  • Increased hair growth.
  • Stretch marks.
  • Specific inflammation in the area of the upper lip and chin (perioral dermatitis).
  • Skin discoloration.
  • Blurred vision.

When Not to Use

Do not use if:

  • You are allergic to methylprednisolone aceponate or any other ingredients in the cream.
  • The pre-existing eczema or rash has become infected.
  • The affected skin area shows:
    • Rosy/red inflammation (rosacea).
    • Ulcers.
    • Inflamed sebaceous glands (acne vulgaris).
    • Skin folds, groin, or underarm areas (intertrigo acne).
    • Thinned skin conditions (atrophic skin diseases).
    • Weeping skin.

Precautions

  • Anti-inflammatory medicines like methylprednisolone aceponate can have strong effects.
  • Avoid using on large body areas or for extended periods to reduce the risk of side effects.

Warnings

1. Infections:

  • If bacterial or fungal infections are present, additional specific therapy is required.
  • Consult your doctor if the infection spreads or worsens.

2. Off-Label Use:
